Greetings!
Mike Starkey, Digital Media Program Coordinator, has announced the recruitment of candidate nonprofits for his Fall Semester class of student team projects. The notice, my response, and his reply are included below.
Please pass on a link to this blog post to anyone in the Sonoma County nonprofit world you think might be interested in participating. You can also refer them to me, as I will be submitting an application on behalf of Santa Rosa Together, and would very much like to bring as many of our nonprofits into partnership with Mike and his students.

Greetings!
YES! I met with the Steering Committee of Santa Rosa Together this afternoon, and they authorized me to indicate to you that we are excited to be considered for selection to participate in your program. Please forward to me the Client Survey, and we will make sure to fill it out fully and return it to you by Friday, August 22nd.
Please excuse the late response to your email, as my wife and I just returned yesterday from 7 weeks in southern Africa, Nevertheless, I am forwarding your email to about twenty nonprofits with which I currently volunteer on their boards, or have in the past.

Hello-
My name is Mike Starkey, and I coordinate the Digital Media/Web Development program at Santa Rosa Junior College. We teach a course where students work with non-profits in Sonoma County to remodel an existing web site, create a new site, incorporate responsive design, film/record/edit video for audio production projects, implement social media, or design a logo for your non-profit.
I am contacting you because you have expressed an interest in working with us during the upcoming fall, 2014 semester. Class starts August 19th, which means we need to complete our client list in the next couple weeks.
If you are interested, please send me an email by Friday, August 15th, 2014.
The process of working with the JC students has several steps, and depends on the scale of your project. Milestones and deadlines for smaller jobs will be determined based on the size of the project. For example, designing a logo, or filming and editing a short video might happen over a period of one month. The following are a guideline for projects that span the entire semester.:

For projects that span the entire semester, the average client spends about 20 hours meeting with students, making decisions and proofing the project. Again this will be scaled down on an individual basis, based on the size of a smaller project. You are required to meet with students about 5 times during the process, the meetings can go as long as 2 hours, but are often closer to one hour. The initial meeting is held face to face, additional meetings may be held using telephone, Skype or some other online resource.
In addition we estimate you may need to spend up to 20 hours compiling the project content. Even if you already have a Website and/or video, you will need to go through everything and decide if the information needs to be updated or rearranged.
The total time commitment can easily be 40+ hours (for a full semester project) from August-December. The busiest time for you is August-September, from November-December we work hard and you get a bit of a break. The projects will be presented to all clients and delivered to you December 16th at 6pm. We ask that you mark this date and time on your calendar. It’s very important to us that we all share the completion of these projects together, with you the clients.
Although there is no charge for the project, there is an expectation that you will have the time and patience to work with our students and provide us with the content and feedback we need as agreed to.
If you are interested, please reply to this email by Friday, August 15th, 2014.
We have openings for between 5-10 projects. We will handle requests on a first come first served basis, that match our current student teams and their skill sets.
After you have replied to let us know that you would like to be considered as a client for Fall 2014, you will receive the Client Survey, which needs to be completed by Friday, August 22nd. These will then be reviewed and the final client decisions made.
Thank you for your interest in working with the SRJC Projects Class.
Please give me a call if you have any questions. We look forward to working with you!
